Thank you for joining the inaugural Stride for the Y!
On Sunday, September 29th almost 60 individuals from across our community gathered for this day full of fun and laughter for a great cause!
Families joinied us as we walked from the Taggart Family Y and crossed the finish line onto the field at TD place. There kids and adults alike got to experience what it was like for the Ottawa Redblacks as they had free reign of the field where they enjoyed a post-walk snack, played soccer, ran around, and danced.
Thanks to these wonderful individuals and our dedicatied community sponsors almost $22,000 in net proceeds was raised to help local families.
Thank you to everyone who joined and stay tuned for details on the 2020 Stride for the Y!
About Stride for the Y
2019 marked the first Annual Stride for the Y. Created as an opportunity for families to become involved in the philanthropic side of the Y, this 2km family-friendly event is a great way to introduce kids to their capacity to help make our community stronger.
Join us in 2020, and don't miss out on your chance to hang-out and play on the field at TD Place – an amazing opportunity to see the stadium just like the Fury and Redblacks players do!
About the cause: Y Childcare & the “Y Kids Club”
We know that having a safe and healthy place for our children to go while caregivers are at work is vital not only to families but to the community as a whole. Each year the Y is that safe and supportive place for almost 700 children.
As a leader in childcare, the Y has long recognized the struggle that many families have when accessing trustworthy and affordable care – and it is our mission to ensure no one is turned away for financial reasons.
While Ottawa is often considered a wealthy city, the reality is many families still struggle to meet their basic needs. In fact, in some local neighbourhoods up to 50% of children are living in low-income conditions. Stride for the Y, has been created to help ensure these families have a nurturing and positive environment for their children without putting further financial strain on them.
The Y’s licensed Child Care Centres deliver programs designed to meet the needs of toddlers through to school-aged children. While the Y Kids Club is a recreational before and after school program that bridges the gap between a child’s school day and parents’ work-day.
No matter what care program children are in, the Y provides a child and youth focused approach to care. Activities are tailored to the developmental needs and ages of children. Y programs encourage discovery and imagination, while also providing staff led-activities, opportunities to participate in reading clubs, and homework help
Together we can give families the confidence that their children are thriving in a place where they are encouraged to explore and learn.
