The Home Depot Canada Foundation

A huge thanks to The Home Depot Canada Foundation who recently awarded the Y’s Second Stage Housing for Youth program a $30,000 grant to help renovate and upgrade the heating and cooling systems through the programs floor.

The Second Stage Housing program for Youth provides a safe and supportive place for homeless youth and young adults to live and acquire the skills necessary to transition into more permanent housing. The Y is so grateful for its partnership with the Home Depot Canada Foundation. The Foundation’s primary focus is to support housing initiatives that benefit Canadian youth because they believe safe, stable, affordable housing is the cornerstone of vibrant, strong communities and is directly linked to helping youth realize their full potential and build brighter futures.

Y150 Brick Wall Unveiling

During the Y’s 150 Anniversary year, donors had the opportunity to leave their mark on the Y through the Y150 Commemorative Wall. With messages of hope, strength, celebration, and memories, the wall represents what is at the heart of the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region – community.

Thank you to everyone who chose to leave their legacy at the Y; you are now a permanent piece of our history. We enjoyed hearing the stories as we unveiled this celebratory wall.

We look forward to the next 150 years of serving the Ottawa community!

Common Thread Quilt Guild

Warmest thanks to the Common Thread Quilt Guild in Orleans for their donations of beautiful, new, handmade quilts for our TRY Supportive Housing for Women program.

The Common Thread Quilt Guild has over 200 members and while they foster the art of quilting, they also have a strong community mandate. The quilts they have donated will be given to residents entering the TRY Women’s program. Something to add warmth, love, and positivity to their lives, a particularly rough time for many.

Thank you for showing the women in our TRY program that people in our community care for them.

Estate Planning Seminar

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Joint Estate Planning seminar and luncheon. The Y feels very privileged to have had the opportunity to team up with seven local charities to put on an informative seminar about planning your estate and how to leave a charitable gift in your will.

An extra special thank you to our guest speaker Douglas Buchmayer, partner in the Ottawa office of Gowling WLG, for giving his time and sharing his expertise on the topic. We look forward to collaborating again next year to partner in a similar session and hope you can all join us.

Should you want more information about joining the Y’s Heritage Club by leaving a gift to the Y in your estate plan, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at meighan.hartley@ymcaywca.ca.
