Y What’s Happening: 2018 Events Year in Review
With the Y Golf Classic putting a close on our 2018 major fundraising events, we want to talk a moment to say thank you! Thank you for signing up to raise money, cycling, playing hockey, rappelling down an 18 story building, and hitting the greens at the gorgeous Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, to ensure every child in our community has the opportunities they deserve!
This is what you made possible:
The Y Cycle for Strong Kids saw more than 90 individuals of all ages cycle for two hours, while raising over $65,000 for the Y Strong Kids Campaign.
What does that mean? Thanks to you, we were able to provide the equivalent of of 217 kids a full year of recreational programming such as basketball lessons, dance, and street hockey. Giving kids the opportunity to learn new skills, have fun with their peers, and stay active
The Lawyers for Kids Hockey tournament rallied 11 full hockey teams from some of our city’s top law firms. Together they raised $30,000 to ensure families in our community had a safe and caring place for the kids to go before and after school.
What does that mean? Thanks to you, we were able to provide the equivalent of 150 months of collective before and after school care to children in our community. Giving them a place to socialize with their peers, receive homework help, keep active, and learn how to mediate and work through conflicts with their peers in a healthy way.
The YMCA-YWCA Cliffhanger enticed 30 individuals to take the leap and raise over $67,500 to give kids the opportunity to attend camp
What does that mean? Thanks to you, 280 children had the opportunity to attend a life-changing week at a Y summer camp! More than just a place to have fun, camp gives kids the ability to make life-long friends, learn new skills, uncover hidden talents, and discover just how strong and unique they really are.
The Y Golf Classic gathered 144 of Ottawa’s most influential business minds as they teed off and raised a record-breaking $267,500! 100% of the proceeds go towards the Y”s Financial Assistance Program
What does that mean? Thanks to you, the equivalent of 557 families can receive a full year membership to the Y, ensuring kids have access to important programs such as swim lessons and drop-in youth nights; while adults have access to our health and fitness facilities. You are giving these families a place to stay active together, while focusing on their physical and mental health.
